Archive No.4 "The La-7??..."

There has been a lot of discussion about the La-7's 3D model in IL2FB. The question has been put on this site, "can you actually skin an La-7 in the game?".... Well....

It has to be said that the answer is probably, "No". You just can't. The "La-7" 3D model in IL2FB is, in fact, simply and La-5FN with the oil cooler repositioned. That is exactly all. There is just nothing usefully La-7-like on the aircraft model.

Even so, in some cases you can use clever skinning to get some more authentic results. Can you do so with the La-7? Again, I'm afraid, I thinkn the answer is that you cannot. Of course, you can do much with the silly panel lining. That is no serious problem. But the 3D model does things like place an La-5 type wing root wheel bay fairing right in the way of completing the La-7's cowl. One cannot see how to get around this. And the cowling itself is onion-shaped; how can this be an La-7, even with proper details?

I'm afraid that these screen shots are probably definite evidence that the task is impossible....
