Archive No.3 "Career Colouration experiment" An idea occurred to me which I think might be fascinating. I am going to start a new campaign in Il2FB. As usual, for my tastes, this will have the full realism settings turned on, except for " No Exterior View" (we need screenshots!). But, the pilot and his antics are not the focus of the experiment. I am going to keep careful track of the aircraft. I will be applying general and specific weathering to the machine over time, in agreement with the conditions on the front, the weather, the number of sorties within a given period, etc., etc. The idea will be to try to recreate the appearance of an actual aircraft under similar conditions. In addition, I will pay strict attention to damage to the aircraft. Areas that receive battle damage (and such) will of course need refinishing suitable to cover the repairs. I will apply more or less 'professional' refinishing according to how I speculate the aircraft might have been dealt with in reality (fixed locally or at a PARM, for example). Also, in my usual way, I tend to personalize the aircraft over time. I think it is unlikely that a junior pilot with one victory will have a huge red nose of his/her fighter! Possible, but... So, I allow my markings and such to evolve over time; I think as real aircraft would have done. I apply factory type camouflage and markings when I start, and then the process takes off (so to speak). This will be integrated with the weathering I will apply, as well. Look for updates and postings on the previous page of the progress of the aircraft through this weathering and markings experiment.
