Yakovlev Yak-1 in 1/48th Scale

Yak-1b

Yak-1b ( Gary Byrne ). "This is the Accurate Miniatures Yak-1 in 1/48 scale. I used Eduard's detail set fe166. This set contains mostly cockpit parts which in my opinion, outside of the seatbelts, was more trouble than it was worth. I also added the fuel gauges shown on this site. The paint scheme was inspired by the articles on this site as well. The markings came from a sheet produced by Super Scale for the Great Models Webstore. To the best of my knowledge these are the only decals they have produced for the on-line retailer. The sheet includes two Yak-1s: Baranaov's "White 1" and "Red 28" from the 77th IAP and two Yak-1Bs: "White 10" from the 73rd IAP and Commandant Jean Tulasane's of the Normandie-Nieman Groupe."

Yak-1b ( Scott Murphy ). "Here is the Accurate Miniatures 1/48 yak-1b built straight from the box, including the decals. This was such an excellent kit there was very little to improve on!"

Yak-1

Yak-1b ( Paul Flint ). "Accurate Miniatures Yak-1 in 1/48th scale kit in a stock build. Unfortunately there is not a correct set of decals for this plane in 1/48th scale. Several decal sheets were raided for this and it is still not right! The small scripting has been done by hand as the sheet did not have it anywhere near close (and had nothing for the right side). Mikhail Dmitryiyevich Baranaov was born on Oct 21, 1921 and enrolled for VVS service in 1939. He scored his first three kills on Oct 30, 1941(a Ju88, Me109 and an Hs129) and was awarded the HSU on Aug 12, 1942. He flew with the 183 IAP and the 9GvIAP and had a final score of 24 kills and 28 assists when he was killed in a flying accident on Jan 15, 1943. (Biographical details from Stalin's Eagles by Hans D. Seidl.)"

Yak-1b

Yak-1b ( Paul Flint ). "Accurate Miniatures Yak-1b built with the addition of the squadron vacuum-formed canopy and decals by Aeromaster (48-423). The vacuum-formed canopy corrects the incorect line of the rear section, as the kit-supplied item is too square. This kit features my new mix for AMT-6 Black, but it appears too grey in the photos, to the naked eye it is a true off-black. I also dressed it up a bit by stealing a 12.7mm UBS machine gun from the ICM MiG-3 kit and gluing it in so the barrel sticks out. Lydia Vladimirovna Lityak was born in Moscow on Aug 18 1921 and later graduated from the Kherson Military Flying school in the Urkaine. Her first combat assignment was with the 586 IAP activated in Oct 1941 at Engels and later defended Saratov in 1942. In Sep 1942 she was transferred to the 437 IAP to defend the Stalingrad/Volga area and on the 13th scored her first kill. In Jan 1943 she was trensferred to the 296 IAP which became the 73 GvIAP on May 3 1943. On Aug 1 1943 she took off on her fourth mission of the day and shot down two more planes, (bringing her total to 12) before being shot down and dying in the crash. In 1979 her remains were found near Dmitryevka and on May 5 1990 Mikhail Gorbachev posthumously awarded her the Gold Star of the Hero of the Soviet Union. (a long overdue honor) today there is a monument for her in Krasy Luch in the Donetsk area. (Biographical details from Stalin's Eagles by Hans D. Seidl and Soviet Aces of World War II by Hugh Morgan)."

Yak-1

Yak-1b ( Paul Flint ). Accurate Minatures Yak-1 straight out of the box using decals from the original 10-plane decal sheet for ICM's Yak-9. This plane features the AII Green/AII Dark Green "snake" pattern from Zavod 292 (Saratov) from autumn 1941. Pavel Ivanovich Pavlov was born on Sep 11, 1908 and began his service with the VMF in 1929. He saw action in the Winter War of 1939/1940 and became a squadron leader after Operation Barbarossa. At the end of the war he was the commander of the 21 IAP KBF with the rank of Podpolkovnik, he later graduated from the General Staff Academy in 1948. In 1956 he retired with the rank of General-Major and passed away on Feb 2, 1967. (Biographical details from Stalin's Eagles by Hans D. Seidl)."

Yak-1

Yak-1 ( Lukasz Kedzierski ). "Accurate Miniatures. The model is depicted in markings of Lydia Litvak of the 73 IAP circa 1943. The kit is essentially built out of the box with a few minor modifications. These included the addition of the fuel gauges(taken from this site and printed on a laser printer) and undercarriage position indicators on the upper wing surface. The kit canopy was replaced with the Squadron vac canopy. The wing leading edge light was made from a piece of clear sprue sanded to shape and polished since I found the clear part provided in the kit unacceptable. The seat harness decals was applied to aluminium foil, cut and position on the seat to look more realistic. The model has been painted using Model Master, Tamiya and Humbrol paints applied with Aztek A470 airbrush. I followed the camouflage pattern shown in one of Erik's articles pertaining to Yak-1 camouflage and markings (used to be available from this webpage). Weathering was accomplished with the combination of pre- and post-shading and dry pastels."

Yak-1b

Yak-1b ( Paul Flint ). Accurate miniatures Yak-1b built straight out of the box. (my first Yak-1b). The colors and pattern are from Erik's book. I used Pollyscale Warsaw-pact Grey-green for the AII Light Olive Green and a 50/50 mix of Warbird Radome/hub green and Testors Acryl FS 34079 for the AII Dark Green. Pollyscale Russian Underside Blue was again used for AII Light Blue. The decals are from Greatmodels.com and I think they are a re-issue a SuperScale sheet.

Yak-1b

Yak-1b ( Jovan Jovanovich ). A very expertly completed Accurate Miniatures kit as the colourful Yak-1 "Osobozhaenniy Donbass" ("Liberated Donbass"). Jovan has noticed some inconsistencies in the artwork found in Perviy Yak as compared to some photographic evidence, and has replicated those changes here.

Yak-1b

Yak-1b ( Peter Vill ). YAK-1b is the 1/48 Accurate Miniatures kit basically made from the box, the decals are Aero- Master, the paint used is again Aero-Master, the scheme is not the one Aero-Master show with the decal sheet as they got it wrong but is based on Photographic evidence, I have a lovely 3/4 shot from the rear and slightly above that shows all but the right hand side of the fuselage( This questioning of decal instructions is some thing I got from you so it just goes to show that you were correct) . Finished using the method described in his write ups:- P-39, YAK-3.
