Mikoyan & Guryevich MiG-3 in 1/72nd Scale

MiG-3

MiG-3 ( Rick Reinbott ). "Hobby Boss kit built mostly OOB with scratch built aerial wire (hair strand), seat harness (masking tape), instrument panel (plastic card), gunsight (sprue/clear plastic), landing gear indicators (brass wire) and drilled-out exhausts. Model Master paints with kit decals. The model represents “White 5”, a MiG-3 flown by Soviet ace Aleksandr Pokryshkin of the 55th IAP."

MiG-3

MiG-3 ( Iskender Mailibayev ). Maquette kit. "The model was constructed according to recommendations from Massimo Tessitori's website. It represents the 120th IAP (12th Gv.IAP) machine in early 1942. I remember spending quite some time increasing fuselage width and getting an acceptable fit of the upper engine cowling. I've slightly modified a tailwheel and added a reflector gunsight, seat belts, pitot tube (syringe needle), nylon antennae, gear retraction indicators and a few access panels. Paint scheme is based on the well-known set of pictures taken at Vnukovo airbase in 1942. Humbrol and Modelmaster enamels were used to paint the model. Pastel chalks and drybrushing was applied to achieve a weathering effect. Kit's decals were used (on the real machine number 12 might have been applied in black)."

MiG-3

MiG-3 ( Greg Rose ). Greg has completed a number of MiGs in 1:72 scale, and we will begin to fill this space with his images as we get them sorted.

MiG-3

MiG-3 ( Larry Baldwin ). "RPM Mig-3. It has the Encore resin cockpit and wheels, and a Falcon canopy."

MiG-3

MiG-3 ( Matthias Erben ). "Alpha 1:72 MiG-3, 7. IAP 1942 Leningrad area pilot capt. S.N. Polyakov."

MiG-3

MiG-3 ( István Vadász ). "Alpha 1:72 MiG-3, 7. IAP 1942 Leningrad area pilot capt. S.N. Polyakov"

MiG-3

MiG-3 ( Mercatali Stefano ). "Winter, December 1941 34 IAP. Vnukovo base. The 34 IAP formed part of the field occidental of Moscow at IA-PVO. The model produced from ZVEZDA factory in 1/72 scale. Detailed enough. Only improvement necessary and the construction of one plate in order to accomodate the radio, behind the seat. Then I have changed the wheels (stolen from a P-40 and modified), and added the hydraulic tubes of the undercarriage. The snow of diorama is alimentary flour fixed with hair spray. Simple, realistic and fast."

MiG-3

MiG-3 ( Bert Reynaud ). "RPM MiG-3 of 6 IAK, Moscow air defense zone, early 1942. Pilot: A.V. Shlopov. Cockpit side walls, instrument panel, and rear deck radio are resin parts taken from the Encore MiG-3 kit. Additional cockpit detail came from the spare parts box. Seat belts are Reheat Models photo etch. A replacement Falcon vacuform canopy was cut and displayed open. Landing gear was scratch built from brass and plastic tubing. The torque links are etch brass. Engine exhausts were hollowed-out. Antenna wire is surgical steel monofilament. A clear plastic leading edge wing light was added. The kit's decals were used."

MiG-3

MiG-3 ( Ilya Grinberg ). "MiG-3 of the 172 IAP. This is built OOB using the RPM/Alpha kit." Very nice, and at last an accurate MiG-3 model!

MiG-3

MiG-3 ( Erik Pilawskii ). "This is another RPM MiG-3 built right out of the box. The scheme for 'White 41' comes from an unknown pilot of the Moscow PVO forces, mid-1942. The finish is the classic Dark Green over Green scheme in an interesting pattern application."
