Yakovlev Yak-7 in 1/48th Scale

Yak-7V

Yak-7V ( Gary Byrne ) "Yak 7V from the ICM Warsaw Regiment boxing."

Yak-7B

Yak-7B ( Paul Flint  ) "Here is another ICM Yak-7DI/Yak-9 (early) kit corrected into a "bubbletop" Yak-7b with a resin copy of the part supplied in the "razorback" Yak-7b kit. It wasn't until after the photos were developed that I noticed that I must have accidentally broken off the radio mast during photography (those nasty Gremlins!). The camouflage scheme here is one in AII Light Green/Dark Green with AII Light Blue undersurfaces that appeared on some Yak-7b's. Tikhonov's "red 8" is probably the most famous of these (ICM's instructions falsely attribute this plane to G.German). This pattern also appeared on some early Yak-9's in AII Green/Black/Blue from Zavod 153 at Novosibirsk (number 01-04). The red "17" is from the Yak-7b kit and in retrospect I probably should not have used it as red numbers seemed to be rare on Yak's during the summer months."

Yak-7B

Yak-7B ( Paul Flint  ) "ICM Yak-7di/early corrected to make a "bubbletop" 7b with a resin copy of the cowling for the 7b. Russian Armor Green with some light blue added was used for AMT-4 Green. the AMT-7 Light Blue is a home-made mix of Pollyscale's Underside blue with Duck Egg Blue and gloss white added. The decals are from Aeromaster (48-622) "The Russians are Here" Part 1. The pilot was Senior Sargent Pavel Petrovich Karavay flight commander of 2 AE (squadron) of the 897 IAP (regiment). This is the plane he flew from October 1942 to April 1943."

Yak-7B

Yak-7B ( Paul Flint  ) ICM kit, stock out of the box. "Yak-7B white 31 434 IAP Stalingrad September 1942, Sn Lt Vladimir I. Orekhov. Orekhov was superstitious and always sought to fly a plane with a "3" in the number. The camoflage pattern in one I found on the net,I believe it was a factory-supplied drawing. I have seen two different skins for this plane and both are very similar to this. Paints used on this plane were Russian Topside Blue (faded AII Blue) and a 50/50 mix of Warsaw pact grey-green and US interior green to simulate a worn AII Light Green"

Yak-7UTI

Yak-7UTI ( Paul Flint  ) ICM kit, stock out of the box. "Yak-7UTI white, 7 Kutaisi VVA Georgia 1942. Here again is Testors Russian Topside Blue for faded AII Blue, and Pollyscale Warsaw Pact Grey-Green as a fresh coat of AII Light Olive Green. I shot several frames of this side before I realized the star on the side of the fuselage is torn."

Yak-7V

Yak-7V ( Paul Flint  ) ICM kit, stock out of the box. "Yak-7V 1 IAP Grigoryevskoye(spelling) winter of 1943-1944. I used Xtracolor X607 Light Grey-Green on the landing gear. It looks cool even though it could be more accurate. I have since come up with a better paint for I.M.U.P. Close examination of photos indicate these may have been unpainted. It was repainted in the correct pattern after I received Erik's book. The decals are from Techmod and show the large star with the thick white border that was almost a trademark of the VVA (military flying academy). Sharp-eyed viewers may not the use of Pollyscale Russian Underside Blue to represent a fresh AII Light Blue."

Yak-7B

Yak-7B ( Geoff Kemp ) Geoff's first submission here to the VVS site is this intriguing Yak-7 of the 146 IAP. Originally manufactured a fighter, it was subsequently converted into a UTI trainer. "This is the ICM kit of the YAK-7 UTI, re-worked with the Airwaves YAK-7b resin nose (thanks to Peter). Most of cockpit was scratch-built, working from some photographs, and is very detailed. The decals are custom and were prepared on an ALPS printer."

Yak-7B

Yak-7B ( Peter Vill ) "This is the ICM YAK-7DI/ Early 9 kit. I modified the canopy as per my YAK-9 article, and as a late -7 was being modelled the wing was left as per the kit. A little time was spent improving the interior, oil cooler, etc. The chin was reshaped and a little, re-shaping done to the spinner; I also use the Airwaves Yak-7 nose conversion. Finished in AMT Green , Black over Blue; decals from an ALPS printer." The aircraft depicted is that of Guards Kapitan Pavel Golofiktov.
