I-16 Type 5
I-16 Type 4, ( Peter Vill ). "Hobbycraft 1/48 scale I-16. The model was the subject of 2 of the correction /conversion sets marketed by "AirWaves". Firstly the Type 5 correction / conversion set which comprises of new outer wing panels and a new engine cowling was used so that the model would correctly represent a Type 5 with pre 1938 production wings, secondly the new "AirWaves" interior set was used as the test shots landed just in time to be included and I wanted to see how well they did or did not fit (I`m Happy but it would incorrect for me to comment on my own work, Luckly both of these sets are the subject of a review by Aleksandar Sekularac due to be posted to the VVS site very soon).
The model is finished to represent Black 4 as flown by Mai. S. Proparenko commander of 162 IAP during 1936, the basic scheme is AII Black and Ae9 Grey to which has been added the red cowling and the yellow / red star burst on the tail plane. Information and decals (Black 4) supplied by E.Pilawskii."
I-16 Type 4
I-16 Type 4, ( Chris Helton ). "It started life as an old Spanish Vacukit vacuform . I scratched the cowling and townsend ring, and used an engine and prop from a Hobbycraft kit, and a couple bits from a an Eduard photoetch kit. Since I have found few references for the type 4, I estimated the modifications off of a couple photos".
